The name derives from Porto, a northern town in Portugal. Port is a sweet, red wine which originated in the 18th century when the English took to the practice of adding brandy in order to stabilize wine for the long sea journey. This Port style wine is medium bodied with bold flavours of figs, brandy macerated raisins and caramel.
